We are very proud to be providing GP services in such a wonderful area of the world and feel honoured to be part of the community ourselves. We have been so lucky to attract talented doctors, nurses and admin staff from our local community and we are excited to continue to grow in our second year.
Along with providing a broad array of medical services, from next week, we will offer a regular home visit doctor.
Home visits is something we have always wanted to provide. While our doctors have visited patients at their homes, this service was usually offered in an emergency situation or when our patients have required urgent care but have been too unwell to travel into the clinic.
However, this has all changed after a conversation with our latest GP recruit, Dr Jamie McDonald. Dr Jamie is a Barwon Heads local who has extensive experience in providing a home visiting service and has agreed to be part of a pilot program which we are running in our community. Our hope is to eventually offer home visits 5 days per week during regular hours, with additional services being available for emergencies.
We are extremely excited to provide a service that we hope will benefit so many. We can see home visits being a perfect fit for older people, people with disability and especially busy parents with young families. Furthermore, anyone recently discharged from hospital or the Emergency Dept, or new parents recently home from the maternity ward will all benefit from having their doctor come to them. We are also aware of the benefits of treating mental health, chronic diseases and end-of-life issues in the home.
Starting from next week, Dr Jamie will be visiting homes within an approximate 10km radius of our clinic on Mondays and Fridays. Initially, bookings can be made by calling the clinic but we hope to move these online soon too. Assuming the success of our initial pilot program, we will soon have more doctors offering more availability to provide you the care you need in your own home.
